The Research – Which Trailer?

We chose the Casita!

Researching our Casita was a two year process. We joined several FB groups, stalked forums and watched MANY YouTube videos. Over time we were able to refine the travel trailer features  that best matched our expected needs. We visited an RV Show to see an Oliver and got a walkthrough of a local Casita. What were we looking for? 1) Towable with an SUV 2) A bathroom. 3) Established company with a proven design 4) An extended support community (Casita Facebook groups and Forums)

The Casita had a proven and reliable design. The 2-piece fiberglass shell minimized a chief concern for travel trailers; water intrusion (ex. LEAKS!). The Casita, in theory.  required a vehicle with towing capacity of 3500 pounds. Experienced Casitians (Casita owners) more realistically put that number at 5000 pounds. Our early experience concurs.

Obviously our Casita would include a bathroom (they do offer models without this feature). If you have ever seen a toilet/head on a small boat, you have seen this bathroom. It is a ‘wet bath’ meaning that the shower/sink and toilet all share the same space. Sharing space is the reality of a small travel trailer. The bedroom is the dining room, the kitchen is the hallway and behind every door is possible storage.

There are several different layouts to choose from depending on the number of occupants and how they wish to sleep. We chose the Spirit Deluxe which features a full size bed and separate ‘breakfast nook’. The bed orientation (left/right vs. front/back) gives us some more hall space and a place for our dog to sleep. Mindful that there will be a ‘Sierra Stepover’ to get to the bathroom. Another example of shared space.
