A7 – The Mod Squad (outdoor version Part 2)

Looks like you’re carrying some extra weight back there……

As anyone on the Casita FB groups will tell you – The rear bumper of the Casita is not designed to hold any weight, It is basically a hollow square tube where many people store their ‘stinky slinky’ waste tank hose. The rubber end covers pull off, you slide the hose in there and end of story. So what if you wanted to carry some extra cargo on the back of your Casita using one of those rear cargo carriers? There is a solution for that.

While at Little Home on the Road (yup, we haven’t left Texas yet) we had them install a rear hitch receiver that is designed specifically to mount onto the frame of the Casita trailer. Many people use a rear hitch receiver to connect any number of aftermarket accessories (cargo carrier, bike carriers, electric bike carrier, flag pole etc.). This was definitely a modification we wanted completed before getting home.

Here is our rear hitch – I won’t speak to the weight capacity of this unit but based on conversations with the guys at LHOTR, we are confident it will meet our requirements. If I haven’t mentioned it before, the folks at LHOTR were great to work with. As a side note, since our trailer was going to be tied up at LHOTR for most of the day, we opted to visit the Kimball Art Museum in Ft. Worth. Highly recommended. And we drove through the stockyards district which looked to be alot of fun – maybe when we have more time. We had to get back to our modified Casita!
